Civic & Public Space

Middlewood Locks, Salford

New canal side park and civic square in Salford. A varied landscape with character and urban greening

We have recently prepared designs for ‘Territory B’ at Middlewood Locks in Salford. This follows on from an initial residential development known as ‘Territory A’. The intention with this latest phase is to introduces a more mixed use character to the wider Middlewood Locks development.

The site forms the main entrance to Middlewood Locks. It is framed on two sides by railway arches, and intersected by the Manchester, Bury and Bolton canal.

The proximity to Manchester City Centre and the connections formed through the site allow for a variety of unique urban landscapes to be created including a large civic square, a canal-side park and a key corner space known as the ‘The Nook’.

Bars, cafes and shops in the railway arches will activate the landscape.  The residential towers include roof terraces and private podium gardens, which, along with the public landscape, will make for a green and well tree’d urban landscape.
